Education
Education in the US is well known for its quality and variety. There are typically three levels of education; the undergraduate program (Bachelor's degree), the graduate program (Master's degree) and the postgraduate program (Doctoral degree or PhD).
The undergraduate programs in the US usually take four years to complete whereas the graduate programs in the USA take between 1 and 3 years to complete. And the duration of postgraduate programs can range from 4 years to 6 years.
The minimum age of admission to US universities is usually 18.
Students who want to complete a degree in law and medicine in the US should beware. Law and medicine degrees are not offered at the undergraduate level in the US. They are completed as professional study after receiving a bachelor’s degree with no preferred undergraduate majors. However, medical schools have set prerequisite courses that must be taken by the student during their undergraduate before enrollment. Students preparing to attend medical school after their undergraduate careers are known as pre-med.
There are typically two terms in an academic year in US universities. 1 term or semester lasts a total of 14 weeks, from September to December and from January to May. Most institutions will have intensive 8-weeks courses during summer for students to catch up on their academic progress if they miss or fail a class.
The very minimum entry requirements to the undergraduate program for Malaysian students are:
- 4 passes in SPM/UEC
- 2 passes in STPM
or
- 3 passes in O-level
- 2 passes in A-level

English Requirements:
- completion of SAT/ACT tests or TOEFL test.
