The Language Route: French Language Programme + Direct University Entry

Phase 1: Learn French in Lyon

Phase 2: Apply Directly to a French Public University

EUR 2,770 per year is the official "Bienvenue en France" differentiated tuition rate that French public universities charge non-EU students for a Licence. A small number of universities set their own rate, so Mystudy confirms the exact figure once your university placement is decided.

If you continue straight through to a Master's (5 years of university in total), tuition rises to EUR 3,770 per year for the final 2 years. The full Licence plus Master's journey, including the Inflexyon language phase, comes to approximately EUR 54,250 - 75,850 (RM 270,000 - 380,000) over roughly 5.5 to 6 years.
At the low end, a student who studies for 6 months at Inflexyon, lives in CROUS student housing, and studies at a public university outside Paris can complete a full bachelor's degree for around RM 175,000. That is less than what many Malaysian private universities charge for tuition alone, and it includes an entire second language most Malaysian graduates never acquire.
France's government provides a housing subsidy called CAF (Caisse d'Allocations Familiales), sometimes referred to as APL, to all students in France, including international students, whether you are at Inflexyon or at university. Depending on your rent and city, this can reduce your housing costs by EUR 100 - 300 per month. It is not a scholarship you apply for competitively; every eligible student can claim it. The living cost estimates above do not factor in CAF, so your actual costs could be meaningfully lower.

The SFERE Foundation Pathway (Engineering and Science and Technology)
If you have just finished SPM or IGCSE O-Level and want to study engineering or science and technology, you are not yet ready to apply directly to a French Licence programme, the way an STPM or A-Level holder is. SFERE closes that gap by combining French language training with academic preparation in a single structured programme built specifically around these fields.
SFERE (Societe Francaise d'Exportation des Ressources Educatives) was established in 1984 by the French Ministry of Education and has supported over 12,500 students globally. Through Mystudy, Malaysian SPM and IGCSE students access SFERE's French EduCare programme.
How SFERE Works
You spend 10 months in one of four foundation cities (Blois, Limoges, Tours, or Colmar), combining intensive French language training with academic preparation in mathematics, physics, and science. From there, you progress into one of two tracks at a French public university:
- Bachelor in Science and Technology (Licence) - 3 years
- Master in Engineering - 5 years, at a French Grande Ecole or university, covering fields like civil, electrical and mechanical engineering, renewable energy, and biotechnology
SFERE places you into one of over 20 French public universities and handles the entire journey: pre-departure orientation, airport transfer, bank account and healthcare registration, full insurance, a dedicated Student Relation Officer (SRO) for your entire stay, and biannual academic progress reviews. This is a meaningfully higher level of hand-holding than the language-only route, which is reflected in the fees below.

International students in France can work up to 964 hours per year, roughly 20 hours per week. France's minimum wage is approximately EUR 12 per hour. English tutoring pays EUR 15 - 25 per hour and is in high demand, since most French people do not speak English fluently. A student working 15 hours per week as a tutor could earn EUR 900 - 1,500 per month, covering a significant share of living costs. These totals do not factor in part-time work income.
Student Visa and Work Rights
What You Need for the Student Visa
Malaysian students need a long-stay student visa (VLS-TS) for France. The key requirements are:
- Financial proof - approximately EUR 615 per month. For a 12-month stay, roughly EUR 7,380 (about RM 37,000) demonstrated in bank statements
- Health insurance - included in SFERE's programme fees; Inflexyon students arrange coverage through the French social security system and Mystudy's guidance

After Graduation: Post-Study Work Visa
After completing your degree, France offers a temporary residence permit (APS) that allows you to stay and search for employment, typically a 12-month job search authorisation for Bachelor's and Master's graduates. If you find a qualifying job, you can apply to switch to a work permit.
Having the visa does not mean finding a job is easy. France's job market for international graduates is competitive. Employers may hesitate to sponsor a work permit, entry-level salaries outside Paris can be modest, and networking matters heavily in French professional culture. Twelve months sounds like a lot, but it goes quickly.
That said, graduates who speak both fluent French and English have a genuine edge. Most international graduates in France speak limited French. Most French graduates speak limited English. If you complete your degree in French and already speak English, and likely Malay, and possibly Mandarin, you sit in a rare overlap that multinational companies, international organisations, and export-facing businesses actively need. A French degree does not guarantee a job in France, but the language and experience open doors that most Malaysian graduates do not have access to.

Are French Degrees Recognised Internationally?
